In 2005, DiaperFreeBaby received its 501(3)(c) status as a non-profit or-
ganization. This gives our contributors the ability to make tax-deductible
contributionsandputsusinapositiontotakeadvantageof opportunities
specificallydesignedfornon-profitorganizations.DiaperFreeBabyhasbeen
completelyvolunteer-runsinceitsinceptionandismanagedbyaBoardof
Directors and a Leadership Council (LC) which manages the day-to-day
functions and contributes to strategic developments. The core of Diaper-
FreeBaby’s in-person support and outreach is formed by its volunteer
Mentors.These Mentors hold local meetings,promote DiaperFreeBaby in
theircommunities,andparticipateinevents,conferences,andmediastories.
Over thecourseof theyear 2006,DiaperFreeBaby sawtheintroduction of
a new Mentor structure,which was discussed and shaped in conversation
withinterestedcurrentMentors. MentorApplications,whichhadbeentem-
porarilyonholdwhilethenewMentorresponsibilitiesweredecided,began
beingacceptedagainin2007. Acompletelistof Mentorsintheyears2006
and2007canbefoundonpage10.
Themembershipstructurewasalsointroducedmidwaythrough2006,giv-
ingDiaperFreeBabynotonlyastablebaseof funding,butalsoameasura-
blenumberof supporters,tohelpmakethecaseforoutsidegrants. Bythe
endof2006,DiaperFreeBabyhad75members.In2007,membershipgrowth
slowedabitasDiaperFreeBabyworkedonsolidifyingthesetup,andonly38
newmembersjoined. However,asDiaperFreeBabyworkedtoprovidemore
timelymembershipbenefits,thosewhobecamemembersearly(upthrough
Dec2007)weregivenanotheryear’smembershipasa“thank-you”fortheir

ALeadershipCouncil(LC)wasestablishedinMay2006toassisttheBoard
in running DiaperFreeBaby as efficiently and effectively as possible. Each
LCmember manages one functional aspect of the organization and has
directconnectionstoourMentors,ourMembersandthepublic.
