Warwick, Monterey Jazz to CCA
International music legend Dionne Warwick will entertain audiences at the
Chandler Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Sat., Jan. 19, 2008.
With an illustrious four-decade career, Warwick’s
reputation as a hit maker has been fi rmly etched into public
consciousness, thanks to nearly 60 hits since “Don’t Make
Me Over” began its climb up the charts in December 1962.
As a performer, she has charmed and entertained audiences
on every continent, amassing a worldwide audience. Hits
like “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” “Walk On By,” “A House Is
Not A Home,” “Alfi e,” “The Valley Of The Dolls,” “The April
Fools” and “That’s What Friends Are For” are just a few of
Dionne Warwick
the hits that she took to the top of the charts.
The Monterey Jazz Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary
with a national tour and a stop at the Chandler Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Fri.,
Jan. 25, 2008. The longest running jazz festival in the world, the show stars Terence
Blanchard on trumpet, James Moody on saxophone, Benny Green, piano, Nnenna
Freelon, special guest vocalist, Derrick Hodge, bass and Kendrick Scott on drums.
A video display on the history of the festival will be set up in the lobby. Also in
the works as part of the celebration is a documentary on the festival that is being
produced and directed by Monterey Jazz Festival board member Clint Eastwood.
Chandler Center for the Arts is located at 250 N. Arizona Ave. in Chandler.
GVAL seeks artists
Local artists interested in showing at the fi fth annual 2008 Gilbert Visual Arts
League Show, a juried art exhibition held Feb. 9 through 23, 2008 at the Gilbert
Historical Museum, should contact Jean Smith at 480-497-0677 or visit www.GVAL.
org. Applications are due January 4, 2008.
The show feature awards for Best of Show and People’s Choice, as well as awards
in each individual category. A special non-juried division is also provided for artists
younger than 14, too.
“The show is open for entries from the entire state,” explains Smith. “Many great
artists live in Chandler and may want to take advantage of this opportunity to show
their art.”
GVAL accepts a wide variety of art media and techniques and encourages
multiple submissions of up to three per artist. All submissions must be approved
for eligibility prior to their display at the show.
The Gilbert Historical Museum is located at 10 S. Gilbert Rd. at the southwest
corner of Gilbert and Elliot roads in Gilbert.
