MCL proclaims rock at the castle
A warm summer evening saw MCL Edinburgh providing LED screen IMAG facilities and a three camera /
graphics mix outside broadcast solution to this year’s hottest ticket concert in the annual Edinburgh Castle
series of outdoor events.
Utilising the castle esplanade as a rock venue before the Edinburghmilitary tattoo takes its yearly residency, the promoters have this year
brought Edinburgh’s favourite twins back home for a concert which sold out in record time.
Craig and Charlie Reid made a triumphant return to “Auld Reekie” with their biggest ever concert in Edinburgh to date, and MCL
Edinburgh were on hand to make sure that the 8,500 Proclaimers fans had a great view no matter where they were in the audience
on the night.
Running a giant 7.1m x 4m 16:9 aspect ratio Barco DLite D7 LED screen meant that the images were big and bold for all to enjoy. Mixing
on a purely digital platformmeant that Bob – The Doctor – Aitkenhead spent the entire show inside the MCL outside broadcast van (OB
Van Mercedes - like Doctor Who’s Tardis – small on the outside with loads on the inside) cutting between the three front of house live
relay feeds and animated Proclaimers backdrops for the entire concert.
Having brought the LED screen in from CT London and the OB van from MCL Birmingham the entire AV support was a collaboration to
showcase what the Avesco Group businesses can provide when called upon to drive an integrated solution for our clients. The crew from
MCL Edinburgh were brought back in a week later to provide similar support to top Scots rockers Runrig when they took to the stage for
the final concert in the series for 2008.
