Top of The Pops - becoming the first
unsigned act to appear on the show
in the process. More success was to
follow with a clutch of internationally well
received EPs and albums, culminating
in the band being commissioned to
record a song for Cartoon Network
smash The Powerpuff Girls. Things have
moved on over the last decade though
with the band splitting and going their
own way. Pint size front woman Manda
Rin, released from the pressures and
stresses of a major record deal, has
spent her time since Bis disbanded
pursuing a solo career and just having
fun with her music.
“One of the things I’ve been doing is
playing live with Juno. They’re being
offered lots right now and are doing
really well for themselves. I don’t really
consider myself part of the band; I’m
more of a guest who just appears with
them. They’ve come on such a long way
and one of the most inspirational things
about them is that I have genuine fun;
I’ve never had so much fun with a band in
that way in a long time. I’d hang out with
them whether we were playing music or
just having a drink.”
It’s obvious from the start of the interview
that Manda Rin is looking forward to her
new album being released and a quick
scroll through her MySpace lets us know
that she’s not the only one. Her work with
Juno and previous incarnation as one
third of Bis means she already has an
audience eager to hear her work. So what’s so special about the city and
