nce it was famed as the setting for Irvine Welsh’s gritty
tale of drug addiction - but things have changed at
Granton. Stunning views across the Forth, hundreds
of new homes and acres of open parkland have transformed
the area into one of Europe’s most ambitious waterfront
developments and it’s fast becoming a property hotspot.
A couple of miles from the city centre, the Forthquarter marks
the regeneration of what was the old Gasworks. Now, the
110 acre site is characterised by green space, award-winning
design and boasts over 750 properties. With new commercial
developments in the pipeline and big property names like
Cruden and Bellway gaining a foothold, it’s easy to see why this
whole area has been dubbed the Forth Riviera.
Property
Unlike some new build projects which seem to stack properties
like dominoes, at the Forthquarter there’s room to breathe. John
Brown, Director at DTZ Residential advises the landowners,
National Grid, on residential development and land sales. He
says the Forthquarter is much more than a place to live: “The
Forthquarter is a breath of fresh air. A huge park runs through
the whole development, providing an attractive open space
with water features and space just to sit and chill out.”
