GAMES
England took top hockey honours at the
2008 UK School Games in what was the
debut year for the sport.
Hockey joined the existing programme
of athletics, badminton, fencing,
gymnastics, judo, swimming, table
tennis and volleyball to become the
ninth sport at the annual event.
This year’s games were held in Bath
and Bristol in August with hockey
matches played at the University of the
West of England’s all-weather pitch in
Bristol.
The school games is a multi-sport
event for the UK’s elite young athletes
of school age. The games combine
sports into a four-day programme
designed to replicate the feel of
major event such as the Olympic or
Paralympic Games.
