GB and Scotland goalkeeper,
Alistair McGregor, was a superb act
I

be a world class player by making
some truly spectacular saves and
helping ensure the men’s team had
their best finish since 1988. We talk

to him after the event to see what
he thought about the matches, his
t
performance and the future.
How competitive are you?

I am massively competitive. I have an
older brother and everything we do
is a competition. We got a mini table
tennis table for Christmas two years
ago, it is one foot by two feet but we
played 83 games in a row!
How important is winning a medal?
Or is it the ‘taking part’?
The focus is always on winning a
medal but I think in order to get
there you need to keep reaching and
striving for personal bests. If you
keep going with that, then eventually
you will win a medal.
How does all the praise you got after
Beijing make you feel?
The Olympics was a dream come true
and I was obviously delighted with
how I managed to perform my role
in the team. I feel that the Olympics
was an opportunity for me to perform
well for all the people that have
helped me to reach that point.
England are playing in the
Champions Trophy thanks to their
Olympic performance as Great
Britain. As a Scot you won’t be
playing in the competition – is that
fair?

England qualify on the back of GB
and vice-versa because England
are the nominated country. I am
delighted for all my mates in the
team who all performed well to
achieve qualification from the
Olympics for the Champions Trophy.
The only competition that GB go to is
the Olympics. I feel that if GB want to
push for a medal in 2012 then they
need to be entered into more high
profile events like the Champions
b
Trophy as GB.
