Approved Instruments, Audition Pieces, and Special Requirements
Although this is "the definitive list", we always anticipate changes. Our rules state that if requirements
change a student may still audition following any previously published requirements without penalty. How-
ever, oftentimes the changes are to the student's advantage. Please check the All-State Auditions website
(www.allstateauditions.com) regularly. Changes will be made in red in the "InstrumentRequirements.pdf"
document, and will be posted in "Special Announcements".

PERCUSSION

Percussion (all): “#1” from Eight (+4) Three Minute Audition Solos for Multiple Percussion, Tanner.
Select major instrument and play from:
Audition Etudes for Snare,Tympani, Keyboard and Multiple Percussion, Whaley, Meredith.
(PRS) Snare #12; (PRT) Timpani #11; (PRM) Mallets #11


VOICE

Vocal (S/A/T/B): Solo: “Danza Danza Fanciulla Gentile” from 24 Italian Songs and Arias, Durante,
Shirmer.
Sing measure 1-41 for Medium High voice (S/T) or Medium Low Voice (A/B), no ornaments, in Italian.
Ensemble: All Creatures Now Are Merry, Bennet, from website below.
Sing all with part missing accompaniment, sopranos sing soprano II part.

STRINGS

STRINGS: Students may use their own fingerings, bowings and edition. There will be an orchestral excerpt
from the upcoming All-State concert repertoire posted on-line for students to prepare; all markings of the
excerpt must be followed.

Violin (VLN): 3rd Violin Concerto Opus 61, Saint-Saens , suggested edition is Schirmer or International.
Play measure 5 to measure 64.

Viola (VLA): Concerto in c minor, J.C. Bach, suggested edition is Suzuki.
Play 1st movement starting at pickup to measure 13 (solo entrance) ending at downbeat of measure 69.


Cello (CEL): Concerto in C Major, Hayden, Hob VII #1, suggested edition is International.
Play from beginning of “Solo” through the downbeat of measure 89.

String Bass (STB): Gavotte, J.S. Bach, Zimmernam arrangement.
Play from beginning to end of line 6.
WINDS

Flute (FLU): Fantasie Opus 79, Faure, Southern edition.
Play beginning to measure 40, then “Allegro 2/4” to measure 140.
