“Jari Love a Coach with Compassion!”
Interview by Inga Yandell
“Take good care of yourself to ensure that you can give your best in everything you do”
This insightful philosophy is evident in both the attitude and actions of Calgary Coach and Fitness Expert Jari Love. As a
teenager, Jari enjoyed competitive running and developed an appreciation for fitness that was destined to last her lifetime.
Professionally her career has been colorful and demonstrates talent for a variety of disciplines including as a recording artist,
model and actor. However a passion for fitness beckoned Jari to pursue Certification as a Personal Fitness Trainer where her
enthusiasm and experience is captured in the critically acclaimed Get Ripped total body workout series.
How important is fitness to your lifestyle? Was there ever a time when it wasn’t part of your life?
When I graduated high school, I wasn’t really doing much in terms of keeping an active lifestyle. As a result, I was putting on
some weight. Since then, though, I’ve managed to lose the weight and keep it off. My main motivation has always been self-
esteem: when I was overweight, I was self-conscious about my body image. I wouldn’t buy nice clothes because of the weight I
had put on, I was always conscious of people looking at me, and I would always be more aware of the slimmer girls, comparing
myself to them.
What are the biggest factors preventing people from exercising regularly?
The main one would have to be time. Also, a lot of people think that starting to exercise is going to take a lot of effort and time, so
they get overwhelmed. It’s like people envision starting to exercise like trying to pick up a giant boulder all at once, when they
don’t realize that it is possible to break it up into manageable pieces and go from there.
How did you get the Ripped system to address these problems?
The first thing is that I immediately show the number of calories burned per exercise track as a motivational tool, so people can see
exactly what their goal is and what they have to do achieve them. I also use real people in the videos that have done the workouts
and achieved the results; in short, they don’t look like your “typical” fitness instructors, to whom they may not be able to relate to.
I use a lot of positive affirmations, because we are so often burdened by our own negative thoughts in our daily life.
What are the secrets to making fitness part of your lifestyle?
I believe in doing it first thing in the morning. I like working out in front of the TV, watching my favorite shows, or working out to
my favorite music. It soon becomes a habit, like brushing your teeth. It gets to the point where if I miss a couple of workouts, like
with any habit, I start to miss it and become cranky.
