“once we have tried this with the throws, then we can
look to do the same with the sprints and endurance on
the track. We have some good kids out there but, in the
schools, you cannot do high jump, pole vault or hammer
because you haven’t got the facilities and the proper
equipment.
“but we can bring these kids to a Welsh development
squad session on Wednesday evenings and, hopefully, we
can get them on Saturday mornings in the summer.”
bevan wants to develop the sessions for school children
not just in cardiff but throughout Wales at the athletic
centres in Swansea and deeside.
throwing is not the most lucrative of events in athletics
as the sprinters and endurance runners get more of the
spotlight.
but if someone like brett morse makes his mark and
develops as he should, a whole new athletics world could
open up.
