Fresh Flowers and
Permission
Near my 40th birthday, a movie
changed my life. I don’t remember
the plot or the actors, only an elegant
home that displayed fresh flowers in
every room. I can still see them on
the round, mahogany table in the
dining room with the French doors.
After that movie, I found myself thinking, “One day, I’ll have fresh
flowers in every room in my house.”
That thought hardly finished, when the next three thoughts were
flying after it. “Exactly when is someday? Aren’t you old enough
already? Can’t you give yourself permission now?”
I started gardening that day.
How do I lead a life, waiting for
permission?
