Copa Marbella
2008
Torneo de Semana Santa (24-29 March)
Torneo de la Primavera (7-11 April)
Copa Marbella 2008 encompassed 33 teams from various nations, competing during two
tournaments this Spring. Players aged from 6 to 16 participated in group stage matches
followed by the finals. The tournament welcomed over 500 travelling players and spectators
along with a number of local teams from the Malaga province – many of which performed
favourably against their foreign counterparts.
The tournaments commenced with a group stage giving all players a chance to play against teams from
different nations within a league scenario. Following on from these group matches, teams progressed to the
‘knockout stages’ encompassing semi-finals, finals and play-offs.
On completion of the festivals, Copa Marbella conducted a grand presentation ceremony in front of the main
grandstand at the football ground. A well-known local radio station gave their support broadcasting form
the ground and conducting the presentation. Over 800 trophies were handed out during these showpiece
crescendos as every single player who participated in the festivals had their special moment receiving a
memento of participation. The ceremonies were capped with the crowning of the champion teams:

After the great success of these festivals, Copa Marbella is already planning ahead towards further events. A special invitation only
‘Copa Marbella Pro’ event is planned to take place in July for which the under 19 teams of professional clubs will participate. Interest
has already been shown by top UK clubs such as Chelsea, Aston Villa, Reading, Tottenham Hotspur, Glasgow Rangers and Celtic.
It is hoped that Copa Marbella can combine these teams with German clubs as well as local entrants such as CF Sevilla and Malaga
resulting in a spectacular show of top quality football.
There will of course be a further Copa Marbella event during Easter 2009 for which all junior teams from around the world are
invited.
