A mother/daughter acts
Jenna MUkUno
a mother acts
gracefully.
knowing we are
intertwined by a thin plastic string
framed by a rigid vertebral rod
both more durable than mere science could scale
but lashed away in one committed thrust
sucked out into open waters
constantly tensed between
the silvery force that umbilical thread
and the deep and alluring eddies
that pull that weaken
bobbing to keep my head above the lip of the water
knowing the same force that cast me here
now slowly reels me back
to try to thrust me out again
