Recreation Trail

Construction of a non-motorized trail system along the Lower
Rouge River began fall of 2007 in an effort to meet the resi-
dential demand for more outdoor recreation . The trail system
development is a multi-phase project that will take years to OUGE RI
complete . Once completed, The Lower Rouge River Recre-
ation Trail will run along a 4 mile stretch of the scenic Lower
Rouge River from Canton Center Road to Hannan Road . The
first phase of the system is to include a trailhead at
Morton Taylor Road north of Michigan Avenue and an
approximate 1 .5 mile trail loop . The trailhead and section will
be open to the public beginning on June 7, 2008 . This project

is a joint venture between Canton Municipal Services, Canton
Leisure Services, Wayne County and Michigan Department

of Transportation .
Monthly Trail Advocacy Meetings are held on the second
Wednesday of the month at 7 pm in the Township Admin-
istration Building Lower Level Meeting Room . New comers CREA
are welcome . To become an advocate for the trail system,
please contact the Canton Leisure Services Park Office
at 734/394-5311 .
