Backup Server
• Also referred to as the Master Backup Server
– Allocates resources and schedules backup tasks
Backup Client
• Runs on the Application or File Server
– Identifies the actual data that needs to be backed up
Media Server
• Also referred to as the Library Server, Mount Host or
Tutor Server
– Controls the target resources to be used for the backup
• typically tape media but can be virtual tape or disk resources
When we are doing a backup we normally have 3 backup modules. They can
run all in one server, one host. They can run on separate devices depending
on what is being backed up and the size of the organization.
