Patrick camblin
the 2004 Big Gun show winner and 2005’s Best Freestyle Kayaker as
voted by his peers, Patrick Camblin helped lead the way from old school
to new school. As the Ottawa River’s first favourite son, World Champion
Ken Whiting says Camblin “was the changing of the guard. When holes
changed to waves he was leading the revolution.” how did he get so
good? In the summer of ‘99 when Camblin when was just 16 years old, he
and a group who called themselves the Island Boyz camped on the banks
of the Ottawa River.
“We’d just go surfing like eight hours a day, most of the time on Corner
Wave, every day, all day, all summer. they were good times,” Camblin
recalls. “I’ve spent the last eight years searching out the best waves the
