SHIRO S HEAD
PACIFIC PANORAMA | U.S. PREMIERE
A modern part of a forgotten history, SHIRO’S HEAD takes us to the Pacific island of Guam, USA where
outcast Vince Flores (Don Muna) struggles with his family’s history of secrets and a dark past of his own.
Shunned from his family for his father’s death, his attempt to reconcile causes his family’s past to catch up
to him for the last time. SHIRO’S HEAD is the feature film debut produced, written and directed by brothers
Don and Kel Muna. Shot entirely on location in Guam, the island naturally sets
the framework for circumstances of life in a small town.

SHOT IN BOMBAY
SPOTLIGHT ON INDIA | HAWAII PREMIERE
Director Liz Mermin’s fast-paced, multilayered and captivating documentary about shooting a blockbuster gang-
ster movie in Bombay and Mumbai is packed with more drama and action than the movie itself. Following a
cast of charismatic and often surreal characters, the doc goes beyond the tinselly glamour of Bollywood to
explore some of the industry’s darker sides. With unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to a star-studded
cast, SHOT IN BOMBAY tells three intertwined stories: the rise of the city’s underworld in the 1990s, narrated
by a no-nonsense ex-police chief known as “Bombay’s Dirty Harry”; the tribulations of superstar Sanjay Dutt, on
trial for alleged involvement in India’s largest terrorist attack; and a young director’s dogged quest to master the
delicate art of making a Bollywood blockbuster. – Sarah Whitehouse

SHOW OF HANDS
PACIFIC PANORAMA | U.S. PREMIERE
SHOW OF HANDS is an off-beat love story centered on a car yard in an everyday suburb, where an
endurance competition with a difference is being staged. The competition requires entrants to place a hand
on a new Land Rover Discovery and keep it there. The winner of the car will be the person who keeps their
hand continuously on it the longest. The world record for such a competition is over 5 days. Attracted to this
grueling Darwinian contest are people from every walk of life, who for one reason or another – avarice,
poverty, anger, revenge, despair, loyalty, love – see their salvation in winning the glistening car. Inspired by a
true story, SHOW OF HANDS pits all these motivations against each other, and
in a grueling social experiment, reveals which human drive is the strongest.

SOMEPLACE ELSE
AMERICAN IMMIGRANT FILMMAKERS ON PROFILE | HAWAII PREMIERE
Part musical documentary, part personal meditation, SOMEPLACE ELSE is the engaging portrait of a soul-
blues-funk musician from the South Side of Chicago through the director’s personal film journal. Weaving the
narrative, photographic and lyrical content of the music in an unconventional and rhythmic way, this feature
debut transforms the visual experience of a documentary into a fresh captivating journey of many facets.
SOMEPLACE ELSE follows parallel stories of Luong’s own arrival in Chicago as a student and artist, and his
meditations of life in the city through Vanee Kelly and the blues
