Pemb ro ke and surrounding Area
The ancient town of Pembroke was fortified and walled, and sections of these walls are still visible
today. Pembroke castle was the home of the earls of Pembroke and was the birthplace of King Henry
VII in 1457. Oliver Cromwell personally oversaw its siege and partial destruction during the civil war,
but it is a great tourist attraction overlooking the water.
The streets of the town still follow their medieval line. By walking along the Mill Pond it can be seen
just how powerful and well defended the town of Pembroke was in the middle ages.
Visitors can take the popular
town trail, browse the numerous
small craft, gift and specialist
shops or feed the swans on the
Mill Pond.
Nearby are numerous beautiful
beaches and coastal path walks,
with good pubs and teashops
dotted through the seaside
villages.
