TEN returns to 100% Design for a third successive year with
WOOD, a new project on sustainable and ethical design. TEN
has worked with design retailer twentytwentyone to produce
a range of sustainable wooden products for the home or
garden.
Following its showing at 100% Design, the Crafts Council is
supporting a national tour of the exhibition, enabling more
people to see how sustainable design can still be beautiful.
TEN is a group of ten designers who are united through
the shared vision of Chris Jackson. They collaborate once a
year to create products that refl ect the TEN ethos to take a
responsible approach to design that offers a timely antidote
to society’s high levels of consumption and throw-away
culture.
In 2008, TEN wanted to produce something real, affordable
and accessible in order to move its vision from a conceptual
framework, as shown in 10 TEN X in 2006 and TEN AGAIN
in 2007, to reality. The result is WOOD, which features a
number of designs including Nina Tolstrup’s ‘frame’ bird
feeder that responds to the rarity of spotting the wildlife
with which we co-exist in urban areas. The idea for the bird
feeder was to create a product which encourages interaction
and serves to capture a fl eeting moment by framing it.
Devon-based bespoke furniture designer
William Garvey will be exhibiting at 100% Design,
showcasing some of his most striking designs
including the Helio range of basins and baths.
An array of Spanish design talent will be on show.
Lighting manufacturer Almerich will be presenting
a range of designs from its contemporary range,
including Face to Face, a production version of a
conceptual lamp made from Velcro, designed by
Luis Eslava and shown at the Design Museum last
year. Also displayed will be the new Yo-yo lamp
in hanging or table versions from Almerich’s own
design team, Estudio Almerich, and the Boomerang
light, also by Luis Eslava.
Land Porcelanico is a porcelain tile company with
a product range aimed at architects, designers and
interior designers. It combines technical innovation,
design and sustainable methods of production. It
will show designs from various ranges, including the
Gallery Collection, a colourful and modular range
available in various colourways, fi nishes and sizes,
as well as products from their latest ranges: Civic,
Austral and Celtic.
Finally, lighting manufacturer Modiss will be
showing Plamira, designed by Alfonso Fontal. The
double screen light is made of grey embroidered silk
and an inner diffuser made of lined and sandblasted
glass. Its body is made of lacquered fi breglass in
shiny white or black.
