NDREW Jenkinson revels in the challenge of
setting precedents. As technical director and
co-founder of digital advertising agency
vStream, every business project he embarks
upon aims to be a world first.
“What we pitch to clients is something that hasn’t
been done before,” he explains. “We look at where we
feel the greatest opportunity lies to do something new
and interesting that will really set them apart from the
competition.”
At the time of his graduation from UCD Michael Smur-
fit Graduate Business School with an MSc in Technology
Management he was vice-president of engineering in
Steeltrace, which was bought by US multinational
Compuware Corp for US$20 million in 2006. “Because
Steeltrace was a start-up (from the ashes of the ill-fated
web-services company Ebeon) I gained the knowledge of
what’s involved in taking a company from an idea stage to
eventual operation. That meant that, from a technical
perspective, building vStream was not so daunting. The
MSc gave me an appreciation of how the concept of
disruptive technology has changed business throughout
the ages, and digital advertising is very much part of this.”
Jenkinson conveniently based his MSc fictitious
business-plan project on an idea for vStream, which he
then turned into reality with old school friend Niall
O’Driscoll: “We go back well over 20 years. We met on
the steps of Belvedere College where I gave him half of
my sandwich, and we haven’t looked back since.”
The duo’s technical and creative backgrounds respec-
tively made for the perfect balance of skills to form what
Jenkinson claims is Ireland’s fastest-growing online
advertising agency. Since its inception one year ago in
