BATH OF PARADISE
Designed with relaxation in mind, the Flowing Paradise unit, designed by Hung-Yu Yang,
Heui-Tang Tsai and Wen Chang Tsai, employs space, light and music to achieve a restful
experience.
It can be used while standing, sitting or lying down, with a backrest designed to
create an enhanced sense of privacy. It also incorporates an audio system to allow the user
to listen to music of their choice.
The overhead cover is made from acrylic plastic and is pierced with many tiny pores for
a rain-like water fl ow. The rims of the pores are also refl ective so that in partial darkness
they appear illuminated and shine like stars in the night sky.

Contrary to other existing lighting technologies the light does

not radiate from a light bulb or a distinct light source but from
the material itself. The light can also safely be touched as the
temperature is close to human body temperature.

GRAFFITI GOES DIGITAL
Design student Jade Horwood has won a design competition run by Formica with a digital
graffi ti toilet door design.
The design brief was to create a specifi c element or an interior concept using Formica
products for either an entrance hall, a retail area, washroom or VIP area, within a fi ctitious
sports stadium.
Horwood said: “My design is called Virtual Graffi ti. It uses the graffi ti concept in a fun
and interactive way. In the wash area there would be a screen that the public can write
comments or messages on which would then be projected on to the back of toilet doors.”
De Montfort University student Horwood, from Silverstone, Northamptonshire has just
graduated from the Interior Design Degree course at the Leicester-based university.
Her competition entry was described by judges as “a vibrant and colourful washroom
design with a youthful interactive element” which would bring a fun update for toilet
doors in sports stadia.
Jade’s winning design – along with the three category winning entries – is displayed
online at the competition website.
