PAISLEY DUO: GOING AND GONE…
Reverend Ian Paisley, Northern Ireland’s First Minister – once
famous for his “Save Ulster from Sodomy” campaign – has
announced his intention to stand down in May, also quitting as
DUP leader. Aged 81, he claims, “it would be a very appropriate
time for me to bow out”. That said, some commentators
have drawn links between his imminent departure, and the
resignation in February of his homophobic son, Ian Paisley Jnr,
who recently said he was “repulsed by gays and lesbians” and
who resigned following criticism over his links to a property
developer and controversy over lobbying activity . Paisley Jnr
strongly denied any allegations of wrongdoing.
