HIGHLIGHT EVENTS//APRIL 2008
28 APRIL-10 MAY
Sacred is the title of an innovative live art festival coming
to the Chelsea Theatre this spring. The only London venue
now dedicated to live art performances and installations,
the theatre’s Sacred season will bring together some of the
capital’s best performers and up’n’coming artists. Highlights
of the two-week festival include Marcella Puppini, of the
internationally-acclaimed Puppini Sisters, showing you her
dark side with a fusion of music and performance exploring
“love, loss and Lacroix.” Lois Weaver (known for her work with
Gay Sweatshop), will debut new show What Tammy Needs To
Know About Growing Old And Having Sex, while controversial
artist and activist Richard DeDomenici wants to scrap the 2012
Olympics and build a multi-million pound tube line to link
out-of-the-way arts centres – join him to hear how he intends
to do it!
Outside the building, the season will sprawl across London,
with Brazilian dancers leading groups of the general public
bound in knicker elastic to discover anew a city they thought
they understood. Dr Robert’s Infamous Magic Bus (pictured
left) will also be swinging into town with a pile of “freeloaders,
artists, winos, opportunists, surrealists and chancers” on
board to celebrate spring’s Bank Holiday weekend. And,
while ticket prices in the West End continue to soar, Chelsea
Theatre wants you to pay in blood. Literally. The international
collection of artists Leibniz are curating a whole day of events,
performances and activities, and in return they want a drop of
your blood to help them pen their own declaration of human
rights using human blood as ink!
Sacred runs 28 April until 10 May 2008, and for more details,
check www.chelseatheatre.org.uk. Chelsea Theatre, World’s
End Place, King’s Road London, SW10.
