Exactitudes in the name of a novel
photography exhibition that’s been running
in the lower ground fl oor UltraLounge in
Selfridges since February. Held in conjunction
with the Photographer’s Gallery, the
show features work by Rotterdam-based
photographer Ari Versluis and stylist Ellie
Uyttenbroek, who have been working
together since 1994. Exactitudes is inspired
by the energy and diversity of street life in
diff erent cities across the world, with each
‘exactitude’ comprising of a group of 12
individual images. Portrayed in an identical
frame and in the same pose, the initial
uniformity and striking similarities between
people are heightened, presenting an almost
scientifi c and anthropological record. The
project so far includes group pictures from
Beijing, Bordeaux, Cape Verde, Casablanca,
New York and Rio de Janeiro. Now they’re
adding London to list. They’ll be showing
88 of their pieces during the exhibition, but
during their three-week in-house residency,
they’ve shot a selection of images from
our own capital city… and we’re reliably
informed that one of the new works could be
a selection of bears recruited via the Kings
Arms on Poland Street!
The new works will go on display on 4 April,
with the whole exhibition running until 20
