Indian show looks to
develop fastener content
IIHT Expo 2007 + Fastener Expo 2007

IIHT is the India International Hardware and Tools exhibition.
The 2007 show, which incorporated a specific fastener
event, was the sixth edition, held at the Bombay
Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.
India is currently witnessing the highest growth in both
the construction and automotive markets during the last
two decades and organiser, Unitech Exhibitions, is keen
to promote the role of IIHT as “India’s only and
exclusive event for hand tools, power tools, fasteners
and related products”. It is a relatively young
exhibition company established in 2001, which
appears to be developing a track record in niche
trade shows, ranging from hardware to bottled
water, and roofing to bus and truck, both in India
and in the United Arab Emirates.
From reports provided by the organisers and also
from Bracecorp Publications Pvt. Ltd., to whom
we are very grateful, the reality is that IIHT is
still a small show, with a total in 2007 of 145
booths occupying a gross exhibition area of 5,000
square metres. Of these 20 were Taiwanese, 42
Chinese and 70 Indian. Fastener exhibitors included
Avdel India, Sundram Fasteners, Caparo Fasteners, Right
Tight Fasteners, Viraj Fasteners, Alcoa Fastening Systems,
MKS Dorken, Deepak Fasteners, Sterling Tools, Forex
Fasteners, Micro Screws, Rajaratna Fasteners, Atul
Fasteners and Kamtress. International tool brands included
Gedore, Wiha, Nitto and Miyanaga, in addition to a
substantial number of well-known Indian producers.
Unitech report 4,200 visitors to the three day event and
highlighted the attendance of buyers from major
engineering and automotive companies including: “TATA,
Hyundai Bajaj Auto, Indian Railways and Shipyards”. Overall the
visitor profile is extremely mixed. Unitech lists: exporters and
importers, distributors, traders and retailers, engineering firms and
OEMs, builders, contractors and furniture manufacturers, architects
and designers, as well as a long list of service trades – carpenters,
locksmiths, plumbers, garden services, and decorators.
This year IIHT will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre,
Chennai, 19 – 21 December.
