The fifth Travel Technology Show was held in London on 5th & 6th February 2008. With nearly
4,000 visitors, this was a record attendance.
Every year Equinus operates the Advice Centre where it provides nearly free consultations to
individual visitors. Typically over 200 people seek advice during the two day show and
SourceIT-Travel.com sponsored the stand in 2008.
The 2008 show had over 100 exhibitors and nearly 4,000 visitors. Most people who visit the
Advice Centre want to know which exhibitors can best deliver a solution for their specific
business.
With so many exhibitors from which to choose, visitors are often bewildered and find it hard to
differentiate one from another. Time is limited and the key objective is to spend quality time
with a suitable supplier. Whilst a visit to the Advice Centre will help, follow up meetings may be
necessary and other suppliers seen.
In sponsoring this Guide, Equinus recognises that the overall number of technology suppliers is
growing as is the choice of solutions. The travel sector is going through a period of immense
and fast-moving change, both in products and buying habits. The growth of online research
and booking continues and the traditional pre-packaged holiday and travel agent distribution
model is under pressure. Never before has technology been so important to the profitability
and survival of travel companies. Picking the right solution and supplier is critical.
The Travel Technology Show plays a vital role in putting customers in touch with suppliers and
vice versa. This Guide will help, as will a visit to the Advice Centre. For the other 363 days of
the year, the SourceIT-Travel.com website is another invaluable source of information about
travel technology solutions and their suppliers. And there are always consultancies like
Equinus who can offer independent advice.
In the meantime, a number of exhibitors have taken time to brief Equinus on their current
products and target markets. As an independent consultancy, Equinus knows that suppliers
are proud of their products and like to promote them as total solutions. But we also know that
it’s “horses for courses” and a system fit for one customer may not be a good fit for another.
We hope the Choosing a System article and supplier Reviews in this Guide will help. The
Reviews will help explain what the supplier can offer and for which types of company. These
Reviews are not endorsements or recommendations and there will be other suppliers, some at
the Show, who could offer suitable solutions. “Caveat Emptor”!
If you are looking for a new system or some other technology, Equinus’ advice is to consider
carefully the business benefit you want from the system and to prepare a high level check list.
Use the Travel Technology Show and this Guide to narrow the list of suppliers and ask the
right questions. Before committing yourself, get a written proposal and quotation and check
the proposed deliverables and prices against your requirements and budget. And don’t be
afraid to ask for references and take them up!
