Equinus Independent Reviews 2008/09 Travel Technology Guide
Equinus Independent Supplier Review
Powersoft
www.Powersoft-Services.co.uk
Powersoft has been delivering travel technology solutions for the past 21 years. Its first travel
customer was Page & Moy who had just launched the Barclaycard Holiday Club, an innovative
new business offering discounted travel for credit card users. Page & Moy needed a system
that could link with its existing customer database and it asked Powersoft to develop software
to manage customer bookings. Then in 1997 Page & Moy commissioned Powersoft to build a
replacement for its Holiday Offers System which is now marketed as Powersoft’s TSTravel.
TSTravel is built on an Oracle database using the Sybase PowerBuilder programming
software. Using these leading edge technologies, TSTravel can easily handle the high
volumes of a busy call centre and deliver the complex management reports needed in these
businesses.
Although Powersoft has established a reputation for delivering leading edge technology for
large, blue chip companies, such as Holiday Property Bond, Page & Moy and TV Travel Shop,
its current product range can also support medium to large agents, both those with shops and/
or call centres.
Not so long ago, powerful software like TSTravel would have been an expensive option for all
but the largest call centres. It would have needed large servers and expensive Oracle
licences. However, hardware costs and licence fees have fallen and now TSTravel has
become an affordable option for travel agents and direct sell tour operators. TSTravel has
new features for smaller travel agents with three or more branches and includes full support for
the new Chip & Pin card processing.
Another feature that will appeal to all sizes of agent is dynamic packaging of tours. This will
also be of interest to tour operators who want to offer flexible packages using flights and
accommodation from a variety of sources, including no-frills airlines. TSTravel integrates with
Powersoft’s TSBookit point-of-sale module to automate supplier bookings on Amadeus,
viewdata or the web.
For agents and tour operators wanting their own web presence, Powersoft has TSContent, a
web content management solution that can also be integrated with TSTravel. Building a web
site with the TSContent template requires no technical knowledge and Powersoft will provide
the integration with TSTravel for those who want an interactive, bookable web site.
In summary, Powersoft supplies functionally rich systems for leisure agents and tour
operators, from point-of-sale to mid/back office. The operating system is Microsoft Windows
with an Oracle relational database. Management reporting is extremely flexible, either using
standardised reports or optional Cognos reporting tools. The CMS web product offers an easy
to maintain web presence for agents and operators.
Lower costs mean that TSTravel is now affordable for smaller agents and operators, offering a
feature rich system and strong pedigree. The system is user friendly and Powersoft’s support
team works closely with its customers to get the best out of the system. Powersoft easily
integrates with most third party software, such as card processing and post code lookup.
Pricing options include transaction based charging as well as the more traditional licence fees.
Software can either be hosted or installed on customer hardware.
So, if you’re looking for an established and functionally rich booking and admin system,
Powersoft should be on your list of suppliers, both for booking and CMS solutions.
