Great environment for development

T-Mobile’s vibrant light and airy contact centre in Merthyr Tydfil is well established employing over 750 people. Here we profile Jamie Meredith, who’s worked as a Customer Retention Advisor at T-Mobile for two years. He’s recently been promoted to Team Manager, commenting on his new role he says:

“The training programme at T-Mobile is structured and I was set clear goals from day one. I also regularly receive feedback from my operational manager which has really helped me progress quickly and get me to where I am today. The career progression opportunities are great here. If you want to get places then T-Mobile gives you the support and training you need”

Each customer is different

He now manages a team of eight people. “As a customer Retention Advisor, it’s important to understand that each customer is going to be different so it’s our job to adapt the products to get it right. This might be negotiating a line rental package or a mobile phone upgrade. Our goal is to keep customers loyal to T-Mobile so we work together to keep this objective clear and set price plans and packages which are tailored to customers’ needs.”

Relaxing and modern environment

The working culture at the contact centre is important in helping T-Mobile’s employees feel at home: “I get on really well with my team and although the office can be hectic at times, I feel relaxed around everyone and have got to know them all on a personal level which is great. I really enjoy developing my team and working with them in a really nice office, and helping them to get the most out of their positions.”

T-Mobile’s modern office environment has a subsidised restaurant which provides a variety of hot and cold food, a cyber cafe with free internet access and plenty of breakout areas to help staff relax, which makes it a really pleasant place to work. T-Mobile also offers a variety of shift patterns which can be adapted to fit around different lifestyles.

The contact centre is within close proximity to Cardiff, and the car parking is free, which makes it really easy to travel in by car. T-Mobile’s offices also has good transport links. It’s just one hour by train from Cardiff Central to Merthyr Tydfil and then a short walk to the contact centre. There are also frequent and reliable bus services.

In with a chance of wining

To keep T-Mobile’s Customer Retention Advisors motivated throughout the year there is an incentives programme called Euro Winners, Jamie explains: It’s a year-long incentive and to be in with a chance of winning you need to achieve your targets and objectives every month. I’ve won this twice in a row and in April I went to New York which was fantastic. The prizes are amazing and range from cruises to exciting city breaks. It certainly kept me working hard!”

T-Mobile offers a competitive benefits package which is another perk of the job: “I’m very happy with the salary package, it’s quite an advantage of working with T-Mobile. We also get benefits which include phone discounts and childcare vouchers so there are benefits for everyone.”
