All the skills required in the modern workplace – and how to get them
Take the first step towards a degree qualification and a new career
Do you have the ambition to get on, but don’t have the right qualifications to start a degree straight away? Or do you want to gain the confidence and skills to tackle a higher level of study? If so, the Foundation Studies programme from Glamorgan Outreach (which is part of the University of Glamorgan) could be for you.
The Foundation Studies programme is a wonderful opportunity for you to take the first step towards a degree qualification and a new career.
Foundation courses are available in the following subject areas:
Aerospace Engineering, Applied Sciences, Built Environment, Business Studies, Chiropractic, Computing, Civil Engineering, Combined Studies, Design, Electronics, Forensic Science, Geography, Health Sciences / Nursing, Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Police Studies, Social Work, Sports Science.
If you haven’t decided on a particular subject yet, you can keep your options open with the Combined Honours Foundation programme. Our programmes are very flexible, specifically designed to allow you to prepare for either specific or more general degree or HND courses.
If you successfully complete one of our Foundation Studies programmes you’ll gain automatic progression on to the first year of an appropriate degree or HND course at the University of Glamorgan.
Courses start in October and run full-time for one academic year. Not only will you gain an introduction to your chosen subject, but we can also help you improve your study skills – the work you undertake during the Foundation year will prepare you for the level of study in front of you.
There are no typical entry qualifications and all applications are considered on individual merit – we look for a high level of motivation and competence in literacy and numeracy.
There’s been no better time to study at the University. We’ve got modern campuses with first-class facilities, and we’re investing £55 million to improve your learning experience. Plus, our convenient locations and excellent transport links make us easily accessible from all over South Wales. Glamorgan Outreach has a proud reputation for support for those returning to education so you can be sure of a warm welcome. Our approachable Foundation Studies team will be happy to offer clear and friendly advice, and will do all they can to help you have a rewarding and positive experience.
To find out more and discuss your options, come along to an Information Session on Monday 3rd September, starting at 2pm and 5pm.

Student Profile
(Picture of Student)
I came to Glamorgan University without a clear idea of what career path I was going to take. Choosing the Combined Studies Foundation programme has given me the opportunity to try several different subjects before committing to one specific area. I have enjoyed this year a great deal, I have learnt a lot and I now feel equipped and confident enough to succeed at the next level. I have found from this year what I am good at and have decided to pursue the Food Science and Nutrition Degree next year.
